Emma Peers
Painting and drawing has been Emma’s lifelong language, a way to capture emotion and tell untold stories. Originally from Scotland, she has always felt a deep connection to art, using it as a means to explore and express the world around her. After graduating with Honours from The Glasgow School of Art, she relocated to New Zealand in 2006, where she now calls Queenstown home. As a resident artist at Te Atamira, she spends most days immersed in her studio, painting and pushing the boundaries of her creative practice.
Working primarily with paints, she constantly experiments with movement, using mark making and the manipulation of form to evoke a strong sense of feminine expression. While portraiture and figurative work are at the heart of her practice, she also draws inspiration from the textures and colours of Central Otago’s landscapes. Through each brushstroke, she seeks to create work that resonates on a personal level, capturing the strength and vulnerability of the human experience.
When she’s not in the studio, she channels her creativity into illustration and design, working on select projects for her business, Studio Peers.
Emma shares her passion for art through painting and mixed media workshops at Te Atamira. For class updates, you can follow her on social media. Her latest works are available on her website, and private viewings can be arranged at her studio—get in touch via email for more details.
