Upcoming Programmes
12 November - Reflections Through Drawing with Emma Peers
Learn how to draw reflections using pencils, focusing on how light interacts with various reflective surfaces. Explore the fascinating ways reflections distort and transform objects, capturing the complexity of light, shadow, and detail. This session dives into understanding reflections and translating them into expressive drawings.
Emma Peers is one of Te Atamira's resident artists. Originally from Scotland she gained her BA Honours Degree from The Glasgow School of Art before immigrating to New Zealand where she works full-time as an Illustrator and artist. Emma's paintings explore emotion and movement, withrecent works focusing on mark making and the manipulation of form to evoke astrong sense of feminine expression. Her art is largely focused on portraiture and figurative painting, but also draws inspiration from the landscapes of Central Otago, incorporating their textures and colours into her work.
10 December - Frottage with Anne Marie Hamilton
Join us for an engaging Frottage workshop where you'll explore the fascinating technique of creating textured art through rubbing. This hands-on program is perfect for all skill levels and will guide you from introductions to creating your very own layered frottage artwork. By the end of the workshop, you'll walk away with a unique piece of frottage artwork and a deeper understanding of this creative technique. Join us for a day of exploration, creativity, and artistic connection!
A note from Anne Marie Hamilton: Frottage involves rubbing graphite over paper with a texture underneath to create unique images. As a printmaker, I’ve found frottage to be a fantastic creative outlet that I'm excited to develop further. With over 15 years of experience as an award-winning artist and educator, I truly believe in the power of art to connect people and tell meaningful stories. Right now, I’m diving into a Bachelor of Screen Arts, where I’m exploring historical narratives through contemporary art techniques. It's a thrilling journey!
