Ian Scott (1945 – 2013) was a leading New Zealand painter who, over the course of a 50 year career, consistently pushed the boundaries of representational art and the use of appropriated imagery from art history. Join Director of the New Zealand Portrait Gallery Jaenine Parkinson to learn more about our exhibition Ian Scott: Painting New Zealand. 1.30pm, Saturday 11 May | WHAKAARI | Free
Jaenine will expand the perception of Ian Scott’s practice beyond his most widely known and exhibited ‘lattices’ series to showcase his interest in the story of New Zealand painting and painters, and the bigger question of what it means to live and make art in this place. Including anecdotes collected by the artist's son and co-curator of the exhibition, Chris Corson-Scott, this talk will leave you with new insights into the life and work of one of New Zealand's most important painters.
