A audio-visual experience that takes the viewer on a journey along 'rio y mar', river and sea, through the percussive music of artists striving to pass their culture on to the next generation. Exhibition opening: Friday 21 February, 5pm
The exhibition features images and short films made by journalist and media personality Kadambari Raghukumar, who was raised in Goa, India, is a resident of New Zealand, with a long-held love for "el Pacifico del Colombia".
Exhibition Opening:
The evening will feature an artist talk with Kadambari Raghukumar and a special spoken word performance by Beatriz Alborada, an Auckland-based actor, poet, and performer from Tumaco, on Colombia’s Pacific coast. Through poetry and performance, Beatriz shares the rhythm, history, and resilience of Afro-Colombian culture.
The evening will also feature an interactive session led by Beatriz Alborada, where visitors can take part in juego de zapallo, a traditional Afro-Colombian game. Conducted in both English and Spanish, this session offers a hands-on opportunity to engage with the customs and communal spirit of the Pacific coast.
Don’t miss this vibrant celebration of sound, storytelling, and heritage.
