An exhibition by local artist Karen Scott including artwork from her daughters Rosa and Sophie, based on observations of the visual changes wrought through different light and weather conditions on the iconic Queenstown landmark the Remarkables and its environs. Open daily until 4 October
Come and view local artist Karen Scott’s new body of work on the iconic landmark called the Remarkables in Queenstown, supported with work by her daughters Rosa and Sophie. A family solo show. All work is for sale.
Karen was inspired by the changing atmosphere and character of different light and seasonal conditions on the amazing mountain range in Queenstown called the Remarkables. Karen personally has a lot to do with this landscape as she travels the road beneath it almost daily and works alongside and upon it as she farms on her family land - the other side to her artistic life. This work is a dive into investigating the visual phenomena of this mountain range that is so present and important to the local Queenstown environment. Not to be missed.
(The Remarkables run true north to south on the south-eastern shore of Lake Wakatipu geographically which was called ‘truly remarkable’ by a surveyor called Alexander Garvie in 1857/58. Apparently, this moniker stuck and has remained the colloquial title of the mountains. Another explanation exists as well, in that the early evening light upon the range was described by early Queenstown settlers as ‘remarkable’. Everyone agrees. The range is called ‘Kawarau’ in Maori.)
