The only rule here is ‘that we’re having fun!’ Join us for the world premier concert of Queenstown Party Orchestra – performing a joyful programme of Latin, light classics and pop covers. Think Billie Eilish meets the Pentatonix! Saturday 6 May 2023 | 7:00pm | PUAWAI
If you’re a classically trained musician, who loves making music with others, what to do when there’s no orchestra in Queenstown? The obvious answer was to form one. Even if our instruments don’t always match the parts…..
We have the best French horn-sounding viola player you’ve ever heard, and a funky electric string bass instead of a double bass. We don’t care – he’s got the power!
Our shared mission is to create music that brings energy and joy to anyone that wants to listen. We’re confident you’ll love our programme. It’s put together with the non-classical music lover in mind. A couple of light classics have sneaked their way in because, well, they’re just fun to play! The rest will have a more familiar ring, designed to bring happiness to the room😊
There are a couple of very special guests joining us on 6thMay that we should mention:
Haydn Dyer – this budding young composer from Invercargill has kindly agreed to let us perform his Latin Canon. It’s a string quintet composition, performed by a 10-piece orchestra. He’ll hear it for the first time at the concert!
Mark Wilson (tenor) and Sally Geddes (soprano) join us for a beautiful rendition of an Andrea Bocelli/Celine Dion cover.
Finally young Aiden Teviotdale, our youngest musician, jumps on drums for a couple of numbers to ramp things up.
As for the orchestra itself, this is us:
· Sheena Naughton, Claire Forrester – Violin
· Christine Ryan – Cello
· Mary Affleck, Jo Robinson – Flute
· Ayako Cameron – Oboe
· Kirsty Burnnard – French Horn
· Emma Wilson – Trombone
· Greig East – String Bass
· Masa Nakazawa – Piano
Look forward to seeing you out there.
