Type Here is Aotearoa’s newest typography poster competition, celebrating expressive and contemporary design. Themed 'Aotearoa now', this exhibition features winning entries covering a broad range of typographic work. Exhibition Opening: Friday 9 May, 5pm
Type Here is a new Aotearoa typography poster competition showcasing the best of contemporary and expressive typography from around the country. This inaugural exhibition highlights the winning entries, offering a compelling visual snapshot of Aotearoa now - told through type.
Curated by Type Here Convenor Lloyd Osborne, the competition was inspired by the overwhelming response to the TDC Aotearoa exhibition over the past six years. Seeking to shine a spotlight on local talent, Type Here was created to celebrate the breadth of storytelling, creativity, and identity expressed through typography.
The competition was judged by leading figures in Aotearoa’s design community:
- Zoe Black (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Hine, Pākehā) – Deputy Director of Objectspace
- Anthony Hos – Design Director at Milk
- Shabnam Shiwan – Creative Director at Osborne Shiwan
- Johnson Witehira (Tamahaki, Ngāti Hinekura, Ngāpuhi, Ngāi Tū-teauru) – Co-Founder of IDIA
The exhibition brings together a diverse range of typographic works - expressions of aroha, political statements, and bold visual storytelling - all 'types' are on show, reflecting 'typographic snapshot' of Aotearoa in 2025.
