Type Talk: Type Here with Lloyd Osborne and Shabnam Shiwan
In 2024 Lloyd and Shabnam created ‘Type Here / Aotearoa Now’ a contemporary typographic poster competition and exhibition, showcasing diverse local creative voices.
They will speak about the Type Here exhibition, winning entries and what makes a good typographic poster.
Lloyd Osborne, Strategic Director, Osborne Shiwan: In 2019, working with the Auckland University of Technology, Lloyd curated the first TDC exhibition in Tāmaki Makaurau, a typographic show travelling to over 50 cities worldwide. Lloyd was recently selected as a judge for New Zealand’s Axis Awards, Adelaide Advertising & Design Club Awards and TDC Young Ones. He has been appointed as an Advisory Board member for the Type Directors Club and is the Convenor for Type Here.
Shabnam Shiwan, Creative Director, Osborne Shiwan: As Design Director at Alt Group and Creative Director at Saatchi & Saatchi Design Worldwide and Creative Director at Osborne Shiwan, Shabnam has created award-winning work for iconic brands. Shabnam has been a judge for The One Club’s Young Guns, Drum Awards and AGDA Awards. Shabnam has been appointed as an Advisory Board member for the Type Directors Club and is a participant in Here Now, a global mentorship for BIPOC creatives. She was recently invited to talk at DesignThinkers Vancouver in Canada and was a judge for Type Here.
Type Talk: Toitū Te Tiriti with Kaan Hiini
Kaan will speak about his winning entry for Type Here: ‘Toitū Te Tiriti’, as well as his typographic exploration and integration of Māori visual principles.
Kaan Hiini, Te Arawa, Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa, Pākehā, Design Director, Curative: Kaan is an award-winning Design Director who is dedicated to crafting bold, innovative work that inspires positive social change and decolonises Western design process. Kaan brings a deep knowledge of Te Ao Māori practice, language and values to his work at Curative, and is resident convenor of the Haumi – their rōpū of kaimahi Māori.
